TRAINING + MOTIVATION
inspiration is contagious
If anyone can authoritatively address the issue of self-motivation, it’s Rich William. A shattered skull and multiple brain surgeries left him in a coma after being hit by a drunk driver at the age of ten. Left blind, paralyzed and brain damaged, Rich’s prognosis was grave with no medical encouragement that he would ever walk again and very little hope that he would be capable of completing a primary education. Rich stunned his doctors, family and friends by not only doing both, but going on to become a national champion runner in Australia and attending college in America on a full athletic scholarship where he ran for Tulane University and completed a BSM in Marketing.
When Rich William was asked how he felt about being faced with spending the rest of his life as an invalid, he responded with a smile, “I had to ask myself if I was content sitting in a wheelchair the rest of my life. The answer was flat out, ‘No’.” That decision produced an ironclad will in Rich to never say die. It is with this philosophy that he has approached every hurdle in his life. Even when his grades plummeted to Ds and Fs after the accident, Rich would not give up. Even when he failed grade after grade in primary school, Rich would not give up. He pressed in and pressed on and completed his education, while training hours a day as a runner and rising to achieve what few men had ever achieved—a sub-four minute mile.
It is this tenacity of spirit that Rich brings to motivational speaking, “If I can get up out a wheelchair and walk, you can get up from whatever circumstances you’re in and change your life. I believe there is nothing that can’t be overcome.”
